(The wisdom of KauTilya)

viShaat api amRtam graahyam amedhyaat api kaanchanam
neechaat api uttamaa vidyaa, stree ratnam duShkulaat api ||

The meanings of the words are quite self-explanatory. 'amedhya' refers to filth. It is also a word used for excrement.
If there is nectar in poison, accept it. If there is gold even in filth, retrieve it. If a lowly man has knowledge, wisdom, art or quality, imbibe it. If a woman born to a family of disrepute turns out to be a lady  of high qualities, then she is worthy like a gem.
